At this year's Committee of 100, teachers, parents, and students marched through the state capital chanting, "Fe, Fi, Fo, Fum, look out Cuomo, here we come." While this was exhilarating, it has often felt like we are banging our heads against the wall.
This time, however, as we met with our legislators it was made clear that members of both houses, from both sides of the aisle, are frustrated by what they claim is Gov. Cuomo's abuse of power. He continues to tie policy to budget and they are angered by his threats. One member received a standing ovation on the floor for simply recognizing the power of debate without threat. Our elected officials are highly concerned about the decimation of the basic tenets of our government, and we agree that they should be. It is time to stand up and do something about this abuse of power and to do what they have been elected to do.
